The regulations around financial planning or advice related to financial products/services do not apply to advisory services. Exemptions are provided for most activities relating to setting up, operating, administering and selling a business, including advice on how to manage business risks. No additional formal qualifications are required for you to begin offering either business coaching/consulting or advisory services. However, the skills required to excel in advisory services are soft skills, not technical/financial ones -- you will be learning how to command leverage and influence with your clients. In most instances, you will find that you are able to record the time you have spent watching training and completing homework as part of your requirements needed to earn CPD/CPE with your professional accounting or bookkeeping body. The skills that you will be learning are directly related to your ability to provide advice and earn income from that advice. We also offer badges and certificates along the way to recognize your achievements and progress.
The risk of litigation for compliance work vs. advisory services is different. With compliance, clients usually approach you and you are in control of, and responsible for, getting the job done correctly and on time. In many ways, advisory is already a natural part of or extension of what you do (or could be doing) with your clients to help them succeed. With advisory, your role is to deliver insights so that you client can ask better questions, make better decisions and step up as a leader. Ideally, you will collaborate with them and influence/empower them to make decisions and take action. It is not your role to "do the work". The onus is clearly on your client to make decisions and take action. Therefore, you cannot guarantee that any action taken by them will have a positive impact. It is impossible to predict the future or anticipate all factors that will impact on results. It is however prudent to inform your insurer that you will be providing advisory services and/or that your income has materially increased as a result of adding this additional revenue stream.

You will also want to set aside another two or three hours for reading the workbook and completing follow up homework, exercises or quizzes.
